At the executive meeting held Tuesday the first of June, a representative from the Wollondilly players and Club made a submission to the executive members of Illawarra District Rugby Union.
In this submission it was brought to the attention of the IDRU executive that if Wollondilly Club was to continue playing the same as they are at present, there may not be a Wollondilly Club next year.
Wollondilly is a very important growth area for the Illawarra District Rugby Union, it was felt that Wollondilly is having a similar problem to what happened to Engadine a few years ago when they continued to receive heavy losses in first grade and had trouble forming a Club the following year.
The Executive of the Illawarra District Rugby Union have agreed to move the Wollondilly Club from 1st and 2nd Grades to 2nd and 3rd Grades, with this action the feeling of the Executive Members is that this can only improve Wollondilly’s changes of developing into a three team club within the near future.
As a consequence of the action taken by the Executive, all clubs that have played Wollondilly in 1st grade will lose all points and the for and against that they received when playing Wollondilly 1st Grade side.
From this Saturday when your Club is scheduled to play Wollondilly you will be playing them in 2nd and 3rd Grades, with starting times of 1:30pm for 3rd Grade and 3:00pm for 2nd Grade.
From the start of the 1st game of the second round all 3rd Grade teams will be playing for competition points when they play Wollondilly 3rd Grade.
